Election 2020: The negotiations teams of FG and FF are meeting to agree a working document for government

Get ready for more of the same as it’s emerged that the negotiations teams of Fine Gael and Fianna Fail are to meet again to agree a working document for the next government.

It’s looking more and more likely that the two biggest political parties in Ireland will be going back into government together.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. The old adage rings true yet again, as it has emerged today that Fianna Fail and Fine Gael might sign a ‘joint government policy’ in just a few days time.

Using the Covid-19 pandemic as a very timely and convenient rallying call for ‘unity’ for the sake of the Motherland, the same two parties that have had a white-knuckled grip on power for the last century or so now look almost certain to uphold the status quo, despite Sinn Fein’s resounding popular victory in the recent general election.

If the Fine Gael & Fianna Fail travesty comes to pass, the role of Taoiseach would be a ‘rotating’ one, with the two top boys (who were very aptly referred to as Tweedle-dee and Tweedle-dum by Mary Lou McDonald during a televised election debate) would take turns at the helm.
