His family announced the news via Instagram, describing the loss as “sudden and unexpected.” Neill was surrounded by loved ones at St Vincent’s Private Hospital and “passed with the dignity that has characterised his whole life.” The statement noted he remained cancer-free following treatment for a rare blood cancer diagnosed in 2022.

Born Nigel John Dermot Neill on September 14, 1947, in Omagh, Northern Ireland, he moved to New Zealand as a child. Over a five-decade career spanning more than 150 productions, Neill earned international acclaim for his versatility—from charming leads to complex villains. His portrayal of the dinosaur expert Grant in 1993’s Jurassic Park and its sequels cemented his status as a Hollywood icon.
