Tensions have run high in the Cherrymount area of the city in the last few hours, as large-scale protests against water meter installation took place there. The stand-off ended up with 11 people being arrested.

Three people appeared before before Waterford District Court this evening, and the rest are held at Garda Stations across Waterford and Tramore.

A large Garda presence remains on site.

The news come a day after Irish Water admitted knowingly supplying and fitting sub-standard water meter equipment.
