Emergency services attend scene of a major incident at a mine in Germany

Emergency services are in attendance after a major incident was declared at a mine near the German town of Halle.

It is understood that at least 35 people were trapped underground after a blast at the Teutschenthal facility.

The miners were able to move to a pre-determined rescue area and be extracted to the surface. Two of them are believed to be seriously injured.

The cause of the explosion is not immediately clear.
