End of water charges is nigh, as Fine Gael and Fianna Fail finalize a deal

After months of popular uprising against the much hated tax and its facilitator, Irish Water, the water charges are set to be scrapped for the foreseeable future while a newly formed commission looks at how best to manage water going forward.

It is understood that Fine Gael has now agreed to scrap the charges, which may or may not be re-introduced in the future, as the details of the deal are not yet public.

In the meantime, TDs will vote on how to fund the decrepit water infrastructure currently in use.

It is unclear whether or not those who paid their water bill will be refunded.
