The European Court of Human Rights has ruled in favour of the wife of an Al-Qaeda chief who claims her human rights were breached when she was detained and questioned East Midlands airport in 2011.

Mother of three Sylvie Beghal (49) was visiting her husband Djamel Beghal, a senior Al-Qaeda operative and one of Europe’s chief terrorist recruiters, in a French prison.

The jihadi’s wife was stopped and questioned as she attempted to leave the UK for France before boarding her plane. She claimed the action undertaken by police violated her right to privacy and family life.

The Euro judges ruled in favour of Beghal overturning the UK High and Supreme Courts decision to dismiss her claims.

EU judges have ordered the British government to cover Beghal’s £21,531 legal bill.

Djamel Beghal is believed to have travelled to Afghanistan from Britain in 2009 where he was personally instructed by Osama Bin Laden to carry out terror attacks against American interest in France.

He was jailed in France and banned from the UK after he was uncovered plotting to bomb the US embassy in Paris.

While in jail Beghal is said to have radicalised the ‘Charlie Hebdo’ attacker Cherif Kouachi who along with his brother killed 12 people at the cartoonist office in revenge for them printing images of the Muslim prophet Mohammed.
