Ireland is in the firing line of Storm Gareth, with wind speeds upwards of 130km/h expected. Met Eireann has now issued a Status Orange warning, the second highest possible.

The warning, which will kick on at noon on Tuesday and remain in place until at least 9am on Wednesday, covers Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, and Mayo, as these counties are set to take the brunt of the wind onslaught.

Meanwhile, a Status Yellow warning for heavy rain will come into effect at 6pm tonight for Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry, and Limerick. Met Eireann has warned that localised flooding is highly likely.
