EU migration pact only way to deal with issue, claims Fianna Fáil MEP candidate Cynthia Ní Mhurchú

According to a Fianna Fáil candidate for MEP, the EU migration accord is the only viable solution for handling the migrant issue going ahead, reports Breaking News.

Alongside Billy Kelleher, former RTÉ presenter Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is a candidate in the Ireland South seat.

The European Parliament ratified the EU Migration Pact with the intention of expediting the decision-making process on the acceptance or rejection of asylum seekers’ requests for entrance into the country, reports Breaking News.

Those who are processed through the border procedure will be housed at “designated locations” until their applications are completed, which should take three months, and they will not be allowed to enter the State.

Human rights organisations have criticised this, as has criticism of Ireland’s immigration policy.

Speaking to Breakingnews.ie, Ms. Ní Mhurchú asserts that the EU deal is the best course of action because Ireland cannot manage immigration on its own.

“It is the only reasonable and logical prospect of success in dealing with this global phenomenon of migration, whereby people are fleeing persecution, global warming, starvation and war. We have got to have a uniformed, balanced system, which is the same whether you are applying for asylum in France or Ireland or Austria, I think co-operation is the only way to do it, because if we go it alone, the cost implications would be astronomical and unthinkable. We only need to look at Britain and see what going alone at immigration means,” reports Breaking News.
