The President of European Parliament Antonio Tajani has said the difficulties inflicted on the UK in trying to exit the bloc should serve as a “deterrent” to any other states who dare to defy Brussels and leave the bureaucratic super-state

In an interview with the Berlin Daily, Tajani stated

“I think that’s impossible,”(for other states to leave) “The example of the British will serve as a deterrent. We have to change the European Union. But we have to stay together.”

As it stands the UK and EU look on course for a no-deal split after Prime Minister May lost her proposed Brexit deal after 391 MPs voted against the deal with only 242 voting for it.

However, Eurosceptic and nationalist parties and movements are on the rise across the bloc from France to Estonia and the EU elite are bracing for a populist spring in May’s European parliament elections.
