Media Minister Catherine Martin will hold exploratory talks with two expert advisory groups set up to review RTÉ’s corporate governance and culture next week, reports RTE.

Both panels are scheduled to start work in August.

Minister Martin also held talks with both groups earlier this week.

RTÉ has been embroiled in controversy after admitting it cut presenter Ryan Tubridy’s salary by €345,000 between 2017 and 2022.

The amount includes three annual payments of €75,000 that Mr Tubridy received for Renault’s proposed public appearances as part of a three-way deal involving sponsor, RTÉ and presenter.

The most controversial aspect of the deal was RTÉ’s decision to guarantee payments effectively covering the broadcaster’s publicly funded costs.

RTÉ Director-General Kevin Bakhurst met with Mr Tubridy earlier this week for a “one-on-one meeting”.

In a statement yesterday, RTÉ said the two “had a good, open, and constructive conversation” and would meet again in a few weeks, reports RTE.

He said he had no further comments.

Separately, the chairman of the Oireachtas Media Committee said its members also expected further information from RTÉ on the ongoing payments controversy.

Chair Nimah Smith said the committee was open to meeting during the summer break if the appropriate documents or witnesses were available.

The information requested by the committee included a letter regarding the conclusion of a trilateral trade agreement, details of all persons receiving a car allowance, salaries of the 50 lowest earners in the company, confirmation that all employee-led podcasts are authorized under RTÉ rules, and details around the production of the programme “The Movie Show”, reports RTE.
