Climate activist group ‘Extinction Rebellion’ have launched a ten day campaign of disruption in central London, bringing parts of the city to a standstill.

On Tuesday, over 90 protestors were arrested after blocking a number of roads in the Westminster area, the Metro reports. According to the Metropolitan police, some activists were charged with assaulting police officers, obstructing police, and public order breaches.

As Boris Johnson made his way to Prime Minister’s questions in the House of Commons, dozens of protestors attempted to block his route causing further traffic chaos in the heart of the capital.

During last year’s ‘Autumn Uprising’, some 1700 Extinction Rebellion activists were arrested over ten days of protests. Some consider the group a radical but necessary movement bringing climate activism to headline news. To others, their disruptive tactics only serve to alienate the public from their cause and heap more pressures on a city already experiencing extreme problems with crime and policing.
