Extremist Republican politician Sarah Palin has lost a special election to her Democrat rival.
The controversial former Governor of Alaska, often mocked for her rather apparent lack of intelligence and poor eloquence, lost bigly to Democratic challenger Mary Peltola.
Peltola thus becomes the first Native American and the first female to represent Alaska in the US Congress.
