Eyebrows raised as to whether social distancing is taking place in queues for Penneys across the country

Eyebrows have been raised as to just how much social distancing is taking place in long queues to get into Penneys and the like across the country.

Staff are doing a good job once people are in the shop but many people in the queues seem to be less than 2 metres apart from each other.

Meanwhile, hardcore Penneys shoppers reportedly queued stolidly from 3am today, just to be first in line. These shopping pioneers would stand at their chosen spot for a solid 7h before the shop actually opened.

Queues featuring hundreds of people in the Mary St. area of Dublin eventually required Gardai intervention as tempers frayed, and store managers were recommended to open early as the queue just kept on growing. The Penneys store outlet there opened ahead of time at 8.45am.

Similar scenes were replicated elsewhere as shoppers gathered in eager anticipation to get their Penneys fix.
