Failure to produce an “emergency pack” when asked by Gardai may soon warrant a spot €50 fine, if the Garda Commissioner gets his way.

According to documents released, Gardai would want to make it an offence not to carry the following equipment: working torch, breakdown triangle, high-visibility vest, first-aid kit and a fire extinguisher.

The new regulation, if enforced, would improve road safety, particularly in rural areas, according to Gardai.
