Family march in Blanchardstown to mark one year anniversary of death of George Nkencho

December 30th 2021 marked the one-year anniversary of the death of 27-year-old George Nkencho after he was shot while trying to stab armed Gardai outside his mother’s home following a brutal assault and attempted robbery at a Eurospar shop in Hartstown.

The Gardai involved have so far not faced any disciplinary action or criminal charges.

The following day around two hundred people, many of whom were members of the Nigerian community in North Dublin, gathered at Blanchardstown Garda Station where one speaker called for the Garda involved in the shooting to be killed before a violent riot broke out.

The crowd attempted to force its way Blanchardstown Garda Station before marching to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre and through the shopping centre itself assaulting people, smashing windows and striking vehicles.

The mob then continued to Hartstown Eurospar which had to be barricade while screeches of “Die you white bastards” could be heard while terrified shoppers clutched each other in fear.

Other footage has shown a boy and his mother being set upon by the animalistic mob while Gardai maintained a hands-off approach and allowed the mob to essentially take control of sections of Blanchardstown.

None involved have yet faced any legal repercussions.

A commemoration march took place in Blanchardstown Village from St. Brigid’s Church to Blanchardstown Garda Station on Thursday, December30th at 6PM.

Residents of Blanchardstown are still hoping the “1 Year since Gardaí killed George Nkencho – Candlelit Walk to say Never Again!” does not descend into violence as last year’s New Year’s Eve protest did, but they hope that if it does Gardai will have the courage this time to intervene.
