Family of Limerick woman who died in hospital after attempting to take her own life settles High Court action

The family of a 28-yr-old hairdresser who tried to take her own life after being admitted to hospital in Limerick and later died has settled a High Court claim for €650,000, reports Breaking News.

Melissa O’Brien was found unconscious in a “makeshift toilet”, a court heard, which was a makeshift toilet built 11 years ago during redevelopment work at the then Midwestern Regional Hospital in Limerick, now known as University Hospital Limerick.

Dr John O’Mahony SC told the High Court it was a tragic case where Mrs O’Brien, who had two children, suffered from severe mental health problems, reports Breaking News.

The lawyer said that on March 5, 2012, the mother of two was found unconscious and was taken to the intensive care unit of the hospital and died on March 29, 2012.
