A grieving family has expressed gratitude to the emergency services after a farmer who fell through a shed roof on his own land passed away in Cork University Hospital (CUH).

The farmer, identified locally as Eamon Sheehan (58) of Athlacca in Co Limerick, is being remembered as a committed community figure, an excellent farmer, and a devoted family man, reports Breaking News.

Locals described Eamon as a gentleman who served on the Board of Management of the local primary school in Athlacca. Athlacca NS said he was “a true gentleman, and we thought highly of him in school as a parent and as a treasured member of our Board of Management’’.

In a statement, his family said they ‘’would like to say thank you to all of their neighbours, ‘First Responders’, Air Ambulance service, Paramedics, gardaí, Fire service and all who attended to Eamonn’’, reports Breaking News.

Gardaí said that on Tuesday, emergency services received a distress call at 12:54pm regarding a man who had suffered a fall on a farm in Clogher, Athlacca.

Emergency crews, including the air ambulance, gardaí, and four fire brigade units — two from Kilmallock and two from Limerick City — all responded to the incident, reports Breaking News.

A Health and Safety Authority spokesperson confirmed that they “are aware of the incident and have launched an investigation.”

Mr Sheehan is survived by his father John, his wife Margaret (née Coleman), and their five children Anna, Ellie, Edmund, Cormac and Davy, along with two brothers, four sisters and a large circle of relatives, friends and neighbours, reports Breaking News.

Mr Sheehan will repose at Hawe-O’Keeffe’s Funeral Home in Charleville (P56YY15) on Saturday (December 6th) from 5pm to 7pm, with prayers at 4:30pm. Requiem Mass will be held on Sunday at 11am in The Church of the Holy Trinity in Dromin.

This year, there have been 17 confirmed farming-related deaths, exceeding the total number recorded in all of 2024.
