There was some great news announced last night as it was revealed that a 15-year-old boy who underwent a double lung transplant in England on Christmas Eve has returned home to Ireland.
The brave teenager named Dean O’Connor from Lexlip Co Kildare was tragically diagnosed with cystic fibrosis when he was just seven weeks old, and was forced to undergo a major operation, after doctors diagnosed him with only 29% lung function. Dean has since spent the last few weeks in recovery and was given the all clear to return home over the weekend.
On arriving at Dublin Airport, Dean’s father Brian O’Connor said the transplant has given a new lease of life for his son. Mr O’Connor added that it was brilliant even for Dean to walk off the plane. Meanwhile, a happy Dean said it has been a month of waiting to get home and he is looking forward to sleeping in his own bed again. The teenager added that it will be like Christmas all over again as he still has presents to open.
