‘Farce’ in the Dáil as voting for Taoiseach begins without the presence of Independent TDs

There are farcical scenes taking place inside the Dáil chamber today, as protracted, 11th hour talks to convince Independents to back Enda Kenny as Taoiseach continue.

It appears that voting has begun without the actual presence of some of the Independent TDs required to take part in the voting process.

Mr. Kenny is increasingly looking as if he will once again lose the vote, likely prompting another General Election.

It is understood that acting ministers Michael Noonan and Simon Coveney are struggling to persuade some Independent TDs to back Mr. Kenny.

Meanwhile, Labour’s Joan Burton has confirmed that her party will not back Mr. Kenny, and has taken her speaking time today to launch scathing attacks at its former coalition bedfellows.
