Social media users have been jeering and posting very sarcastic comments about Micheal Martin’s apparent tough talk aimed directly at the Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Many have been saying that Putin couldn’t care less what Martin has to say, that’s even if he knows who he actually is or has even heard of him.
Meanwhile, the Taoiseach said a strong message was needed to show Ireland’s support for Ukraine.
Addressing Dáil leaders, Micheál Martin said we have seen a big escalation in Russia’s decision to recognize breakaway regions.
He said Ireland was part of an EU-wide sanctions regime that imposed measures on 27 oligarchs, business leaders, 351 Duma members, politicians, military leaders, Russian entities and imports and exports to the Donbass region.
When asked about Russian companies using the IFSC in Dublin, the Taoiseach said the sanctions would include Russia’s ability to use the EU’s financial and capital markets.
He added that the crisis was a “dark moment” and “it is very serious.”
