FBI releases images of “Person of Interest” in Charlie Kirk shooting and offer $100,000 reward

The FBI has released images of a person of interest in the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed on September 10, 2025, during a speaking event at Utah Valley University. The images, shared by the FBI’s Salt Lake City office on Thursday, show an individual wearing dark clothing, a baseball cap, and sunglasses, captured in a stairwell and elsewhere on campus.

Kirk, 31, the founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck while addressing a crowd of approximately 3,000 at an outdoor “Prove Me Wrong” debate. Authorities believe the single shot was fired from the roof of the Losee Center, about 150 yards from the stage, in what Utah Governor Spencer Cox described as a “political assassination.” The suspect, described as appearing to be of college age and blending in with the campus environment, remains at large.

The FBI is offering a $100,000 reward for information leading to the identification and arrest of the individual responsible. Investigators have recovered a high-powered bolt-action rifle, believed to be the weapon used, in a wooded area near the campus, along with a screwdriver and forensic evidence, including a palm print and footwear impression. Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive, though unverified reports suggest markings on the rifle and ammunition may reference transgender and antifascist ideologies.

“We are asking for the public’s help identifying this person of interest in connection with the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk,” the FBI stated on X, urging anyone with information or footage to contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit tips online. The investigation, involving federal, state, and local law enforcement, has received over 130 tips as the manhunt continues.

The shooting has drawn widespread condemnation across the political spectrum, with figures like former Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama, alongside President Donald Trump, expressing grief and denouncing political violence. Utah Valley University remains closed until September 14 as the investigation unfolds.
