The World Health Organization (WHO) has been accused of fearmongering by social media users after they issued a stark warning that the pandemic will be ‘far deadlier’ this year.
Just as things are finally beginning to look as though some sort of normality is beginning to return, people get issued yet another warning.
The warning comes amidst catastrophic outbreaks in India and an extension of the state of emergency in Japan.
Official figures say that almost 3.4m people have died from Covid-19-related causes worldwide since the start of the pandemic, but authorities believe the true figure to be far higher.
Some on social media say that “The WHO are fun police and are attempting to stop people living their lives”.
