Fears grow that Chinese government are suppressing the true extent of the spread of Coronavirus

There are increasing fears that the Chinese government is hiding the true extend of spread the coronavirus, whose epicentre is in the now quarantined city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province.

These fears have been exacerbated after footage emerged, allegedly from the city of 12 million people, showing people collapsing in the streets the Metro UK reported.

Researchers at Imperial College London’s MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis estimated that by January 18th between 1,000 and 9,700 people were infected and showing symptoms.

Earlier this week, Professor Neil Ferguson from Imperial College London warned that the virus could prove as deadly as Spanish Flu.

The Spanish Flu, which did not actually originate in Spain, killed between 20 and 50 million people after infecting almost 500 million individuals, reaching its peak in 1918 at time when the global population was only around 1.6 billion people at the time, compared to 7.8 billion today.

Médecins Sans Frontières has warned that without treatment a person will inevitably die from the strain which causes asphyxiation.

Now footage that has appeared on social media sites has shown people suddenly fainting in the street and hazmat teams coming to their aide.

The videos have reportedly since been taken down on of the Chinese social media site, Weibo, were they were first shared according to journalist Ezra Cheung who has posted them on twitter with one disturbing caption reading

“The lady in the clip says dead bodies were left at hospital aisles untreated whereas doctors are taking care of other patients alongside them.”
