Fears grow that rent and home prices will skyrocket as Irish government houses 200,000 Ukrainians

Fears are growing that houses prices and indeed rent will go through the roof as a result of the incoming 200,000 Ukrainians into the country over the coming weeks and months.

Michael Martin, the rotating Taoiseach, has pledged his government to do “everything it can” to procure accommodation for Ukrainians. Previously, the Irish government invited unlimited numbers of Ukrainians to permanent resettlement in Ireland with no cap on numbers entering our country which has been experiencing a rental and house crisis for decades.

100,000+ Ukrainian refugees are expected to arrive in Ireland at the invitation of the Irish Government.

According to BreakingNews.ie, Micheál Martin said that housing and accommodation will need to be “refurbished” for the thousands fleeing the war-torn country. It is unknown what properties he earmarks for so-called “refurbishment”. It’s unlikely Ireland has the housing stock already built in need of “refurbishment”.

This weekend will see Ukrainians housed in private hotels at an unknown cost to the Irish taxpayer. as the Government attempts to source other properties.

More than 7,000 refugees have arrived in Ireland, with the number expected to increase significantly in the coming days and weeks.
