Fianna Fáil claim their new housing Bill could go a long way to solving the homeless crisis by creating 20,000 new homes

The Fianna Fáil party say they believe their latest Bill could go a long way to solving the homeless crisis currently plaguing the country.

Speaking today the party’s housing Minister Barry Cowen said the new bill if passed in the Dáil could easily provide up to 20,000 extra homes.

The new Bill entitled the Vacant Housing Refurbishment Bill will apparently help speed up the planning process as it will remove potential restrictions currently imposed on older commercial properties.

Mr Cowen, said: “The new bill will remove many of the existing administrative hurdles, but safety standards will remain unchanged.”

However in order to get the Bill passed the party must convince the Oireachtas committee on housing who are dur to discuss a number of solutions tomorrow.
