FINALLY! “Common sense prevails” as the Cabinet agree to scrap face masks, social distancing and nearly all other restrictions from Monday

The government has announced the end to practically all remaining health restrictions from next Monday.

This means that the use of masks in schools, shops and public transport will be voluntary from February 28th, but will continue to be mandatory in medical care.

Many on social media are saying that “it’s about time” and that “common sense finally prevails”.

Advice will be given that people should continue to wear masks on public transport, but this is not supported by law.

Physical distancing measures in schools, such as Pods, will also end next week while testing and tracing are reduced.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) will also be disbanded, but Tony Holohan will continue to monitor the epidemiological profile of the disease.
