The Communications Spokesperson Fianna Fail has urged the Government to clarify  itself after reports have come about that the planned Broadcasting Charge is to be scrapped.

It was initially thought that a┬á proposed ÔéČ160 charge would be┬á introduced as a replacement for the current TV licence fee, and would be imposed in January on all eligible households,┬áregardless of whether they owned a television or not.

However according to recent media reports it is now believed that Fine Gael Ministers have now decided that the plan will be scrapped. The communications spokesperson Michael Monyihan said: “Well, first of all I think that the Government needs to come clean, and say are they going to [drop the charge], what is their current policy as of late November 2014 in relation to this issue, and come clean on it and explain why the change of heart, why have they changed their minds on it, and what are they hiding behind.”
