Dublin Fire Brigade are currently trying to bring a fire at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin city centre under control. The blaze broke out at the iconic theatre shortly after 5.30pm this evening and at one stage there were five units from Tara Street and Dolphin’s Barn stations at the scene.

The building has been evacuated and crews entered the building where the fire was brought under control and is now being extinguished. No injuries have yet been reported. Dublin Fire Brigade report that there are now three units at the scene.

Details are yet to be confirmed as to how the fire was started but it may have started in the basement. It is unclear how much damage has been caused.

A DFB spokesman described the blaze as a “free pump fire”, he said: “We sent down four fire engines, an emergency tender, an ambulance, a district officer and a turntable ladder. We believe it broke out at around 17.40. No reports of any injuries.”

South King Street is currently inaccessible as crews remain at the scene
