Firework explosion in moving car leaves two men with bad facial injuries

Two men were taken to hospital with serious injuries to their faces and hands after fireworks were fired from a car.

Residents on Brook Hey Drive in Kirkby, Merseyside, reported hearing a loud bang and footage showed a red spark flashing from a moving black BMW.

The car then continued to drive down the road with a cloud of grey smoke rising from the rear.

Concerned residents called emergency services and two men were taken to hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The Liverpool Echo, citing eyewitnesses, reported that a man lost part of his hand.

The newspaper said residents saw the four people in the car parachuting out after the explosion before three of them returned, including one who was left on the street.

Investigations by Merseyside Police revealed that the firecracker accidentally exploded in the car.
