Fisherman luckily rescued after iincident off Co Louth coast

A fisherman is missing and a second fisherman has been rescued from the sea off the coast of Co Louth after a small fishing vessel capsized this morning, reports RTE.

Two people from a vessel were found in distress at 8:45am on Tuesday morning, the Coast Guard said.

Search and rescue operations are coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre.

Coastguard helicopter R116, Clogherhead RNLI lifeboat, Clogherhead Coastguard Unit and Greenore Coastguard Unit were dispatched to the site, which is one nautical mile north of Dunany Point, Co. Louth, reports RTE.

The rescued fisherman was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre branch controller said a search was underway near Dundalk Bay.

Evan Longmore told RTE that the longer the search goes on, the further east and south it will expand with the rising tide.
