Tributes have been paid to an Irishman killed in recent days during the war in Ukraine, reports Independent.

The man is from Dublin and has previous military experience, having served with US forces in the Middle East.

A Foreign Office spokesman said it was aware of the man’s death and was providing consular assistance.

“As with all consular cases, the Department does not comment on the details of individual cases,” the spokesperson added, reports Independent.

Messages on social media platforms say the Dubliner joined the Ukrainian army “to offer his assistance” before tragically losing his life on Friday, December 8.

“This absolutely breaks my heart. He was a great guy. Thank you for putting out the information. He will definitely be missed,“ one person has written on Facebook, reports Independent.
