Five people including two children have been killed following lightning strike in Poland and Slovakia




Authorities in Poland and Slovakia have confirmed that five people including two children have been tragically killed following a lightning strike in the Tatra mountains.

According to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, four people were killed and 100 were injured after lightning strikes hit the Giewot mountain region in the South of Poland.

Meanwhile another person was sadly killed in Slovakia.

It is believed that the worst incident occurred at the summit of the mountain when a bolt a lightning struck a metal cross which carried the current through the ground.

The incident which has now led to Friday being declared as a day of mourning occurred following a calm start today, however authorities say the lightning strikes were almost impossible to predict and arrived within a matter of minutes.
