A drunken engineer who forced a plane to stop on the runway at Dublin Airport because he refused to sit down while following pre-flight safety instructions has avoided jail, reports Breaking News.

Ahmet Semizer, 36, a Turkish national of Hillcrest Close, Lucan, Dublin, pleaded guilty to an offence under the Air Navigation and Transport Act for conduct likely to endanger himself or others on a Ryanair flight on September 27.

Judge Teresa Kelly fined him €500 when he appeared at Dublin District Court.

Judge Kelly found it was “unpleasant and uncomfortable” for other passengers in the confined space and was sure he had caused a lot of anxiety on board the plane, reports Breaking News.

Semizer, who moved to Ireland to learn English, also admitted he had been abusive.

Defence lawyer Andrew Broderick pleaded for leniency, saying his client was visiting family in Turkey and “cannot recall his behaviour”, reports Breaking News.

The attorney asked the judge to point out that Semizer’s guilty plea prevented many civilian witnesses from appearing in court to testify.
