Over 100 residents at the Bastion Quay apartment complex in Athlone were evacuated last night after a nearby ESB substation became partially submerged in flood waters.
Authorities are now trying to find alternative accommodation for all these people.
The weather forecast for this week predicts a brief break in the rain today and tomorrow, but Wednesday will bring back heavy showers nationwide.
Army units are currently deployed to operate water pumps and assist the civilian population with flood relief efforts.
