Authorities in Florida now say that 17 people have been confirmed dead after a gunman opened fire with automatic weapons at a local high school building.
The shooting took place at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, at around 3pm local time.
The suspect has been apprehended, and was identified as 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz, a former student at the institution. Cruz had reportedly been expelled for unspecified disciplinary issues. He offered no resistance when officers arrested him.
