“For once, he’s right” – Higgins praised for declaring the Government’s housing policy is a complete ‘disaster’ and a ‘great, great failure’

He’s normally at the butt of many a joke and indeed he was ruthlessly condemned recently by a Nigerian Bishop over his disgraceful comments about murders there being related to climate change.

However, Higgins has received some praise for actually telling it like it is in relation to the government’s atrocious response to the housing crisis.

President Michael D. Higgins has said that the Government’s housing policy is a ‘disaster’ and a ‘great, great failure.’

The rare appreciation of the truth comes at a time when the Irish Government keeps taking in Ukrainian refugees but has nowhere to put them. At the same time, Irish people have been on housing lists for decades.

Sinn Fein joined Mr. Higgins in his scathing criticism of the gross ineptitude and neglect of successive Fianna Fail/Fine Gael administrations.

Young people are now in a position where they can’t rent because rents are too expensive and there aren’t enough rental properties anyway, and cannot buy because conditions to get a mortgage are too stringent and, in typical Fianna Fail flair, they only benefit the well-off.
