Gregory and Travis McMichael were arrested in Georgia, USA, after the death of Ahmaud Arbery following a video of the shootout surfaced.
The former U.S. policeman and his son were charged with murdering a black man who was shot while running through their neighbourhood.
Gregory McMichael and his son Travis McMichael were arrested Thursday after the death of Ahmaud Arbery, who was killed in February near the city of Brunswick, Georgia.
The charge was filed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) after a video of the incident was released earlier this week.
The video was taken by an unknown witness in another car.
Gregory McMichael, 64, told Detectives in February that he and his son chased Mr. Arbery because they suspected he was a thief in their neighbourhood.
But Arbery’s mother, Wanda Cooper Jones, said she believed that her 25-yr-old son, a former American football player, was just jogging in the area before he was killed on February 23.
The GBI said in a statement that the McMichaels “confronted Arbery with two firearms” and “during the encounter, Travis McMichael shot and killed Arbery”.
