The US military is issuing new guidelines for military recruitment which would see those who have been diagnosed with the Covid-19 virus, even if fully recovered, permanently, disqualified from service on medical grounds.
The Military Times reports that a memo circulating on social media, that Pentagon spokeswoman Jessica Maxwell confirmed is authentic reads:
“During the medical history interview or examination, a history of COVID-19, confirmed by either a laboratory test or a clinician diagnosis, is permanently disqualifying …”
However, it is unclear why a previous diagnosis with Coronavirus would disqualify an individual who is recovered from military service but as the United States is the world’s preeminent military power the precaution may likely be followed by other Armed Forces around the world.
There have been reports of individuals recovering from the illness only be confirmed as positive for the virus weeks after their apparent recovery and even some cases of recovered individuals remaining infectious to others.
