The former Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan has been appointed as the United Nations’ Assistant Secretary-General for Safety and Security.
Ms O’Sullivan who left her role back in September 2017, will take up her new position and will be responsible for the management of the Department for Safety and Security.
The former Garda Commissioner who had a 36 year career in the An Garda Síochána, said she decided to leave her previous role as it was in the best interests of her family.
Ms O’Sullivan was offered the position at UN earlier this year.
