In a moving update video, former RTE journalist Charlie Bird has spoken about the plans he is making to enable him to communicate when his voice is gone.

According to the Irish Mirror, Mr. Bird has spoken about how his ongoing battle with Motor Neurone Disease has left him “struggling” to hold on to his voice.  He has now explained that while his voice “is almost gone”, he hopes that some new software will clone a voice for him so that he will still be able to communicate.

On the video, he played an example of what his cloned voice is going to sound like using the expert technology, saying, “Hi, I’m Charlie Bird.  Last October, I was diagnosed with the terminal illness Motor Neurone Disease.”

He also spoke about the Croagh Patrick climb that he is planning and which has garnered huge support from the public.  Updates can be seen on climbwithcharlie.ie and Mr. Bird is raising funds for Pieta House and Motor Neurone Disease Association.
