Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort handed down custodial sentence for tax fraud

Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort has received a 47-month long custodial sentence for tax fraud.

Manafort, once one of Trump’s closest associates, was convicted of tax-related crimes in August of 2018. He stood accused of concealing millions of dollars earned from political consultancy duties for pro-Russian politicians in the Ukraine.

Manafort allegedly used the proceedings to fund a lavish lifestyle for himself, and went to great lengths to keep the money hidden from the IRS through offshore accounts and other means.

The man’s legal troubles over his association with President Trump are far from over, as he is due to be sentenced again on conspiracy charges next week.
