Far-right candidate Marine Le Pen has accepted defeat in the French presidential election, and has congratulated her rival and victor, Emmanuel Macron.
Mr. Macron scored a decisive victory, picking up 65.5% of the votes. Le Pen trailed far behind, with 34.5%.
Despite the result, many voters said they picked ‘the lesser of two evils,’ after traditional center-right and center-left parties fell off the electoral race at the first round.
