Britney Spears’ speech in Los Angeles court during a hearing Wednesday on the future of the conservatorship that has ruled her life for the past 13 years was tense and has gained traction across the world.
The #FreeBritney movement has seen fans, celebrities and even politicians commenting on it.
In a stirring, emotional and even frustrated 25-minute monologue, the 39-yr-old singer urged the court to end the conservatorship’s abusive rules, saying law enforcement officials, including her father Jamie Spears, “should be in jail.”
The conservatorship started in 2008 after Spears went through a period of mental issues. Jamie Spears’ attorneys have claimed that he saved her life by placing it in the settlement normally used to protect the interests of people with serious mental issues who cannot represent their own best interests.
A future, as yet not announced, court date will determine what Britney’s future holds.
