French politician arrested by authorities could face up to seven years in prison after he praised the killing of heroic police officer Arnaud Beltrame

Police in France have arrested a politician after he shamefully praised the killing of the heroic police officer involved in the supermarket siege in Trebes on Friday.

In announcment made on Monday authorities confirmed that they arrested Stephane Poussier at his home in Dives-sur-Mer, northwest France.

Mr Poussier’s arrest came after he posted two vile tweets welcoming the death of Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Beltrame, who was tragically shot and killed in Friday’s terrorist incident.

It is thought the arrest was made after Poussier issued the following tweets: “Whenever a policeman is shot… I think of my friend Remi Fraisse,” Mr Poussier said on Twitter, referring to an environmental activist killed by a stun grenade fired by police during a 2014 protest over a dam.”

“And this time it was a colonel, great! Additionally, it means one less Macron voter.”

Poussier’s disgraceful comments have been met with stern criticism in France with many people describing his comments as shameful and disgusting.

The politician who is considered to be predominantly left wing could potentially recieve a prison sentence of up to seven years and a €100,000 fine if he is found guilty of supporting acts of terrorism.
