French President Emmanuel Macron’s Government has been crippled as a legislative election has denied him an absolute majority.

Far left and far right alliances have eaten into the majority needed for parliamentary control, leaving Mr. Macron utterly humiliated and facing political gridlock for the next five years.

Mr. Macron had hoped that he’d be able to rule France as he pleased since being re-elected for a second term, but that dream was short lived.

This is yet another crushing and embarrassing defeat for Mr. Macron, since the monumental ridicule he made in front of an international audience, when he thought he could get Russian President Vladimir Putin to listen to him.

The French President will now be forced to negotiate with other parties on a bill-by-bill basis, meaning years of tortuous and inefficient outcomes.
