From today, €100 fines for both NI and International travellers crossing into Republic of Ireland

From today, Ireland’s border controls are getting stricter with Gardai issuing €100 fines to both Northern Irish and International citizens and crossing the Irish Republic’s borders. This is a per person fine so those sharing a car will be fined individually.

According to the Irish Mirror, if you are not an “ordinarily resident” in the Republic of Ireland, the fine for being in the Irish Republic for non-essential business will be €100.

A spokesman for An Garda Síochána said: “An Garda Síochána wishes to advise people engaged in cross-border travel that from 7am on Monday 8 February 2021 anyone not ordinarily resident in this State engaging in travel in this jurisdiction without a reasonable excuse may be liable to receive a fine of €100.”
