
New data from the HSE shows that as of the end of September, 10,099 children were waiting for an initial appointment with a Child Disability Network Team (CDNT).
This marks a decrease from June, when 10,714 children were waiting for their first contact, reports Breaking News.
A document obtained by *BreakingNews.ie* indicates that 6,593 of those children have been waiting more than 12 months for an initial appointment.
The HSE said that CDNTs are currently providing services and supports to 44,440 children, an increase of 440 since June, reports Breaking News.
Child Disability Network Teams consist of multidisciplinary professionals in health and social care, including nurses, psychologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language therapists.
During September 2025, 1,283 children on CDNT waiting lists attended one or more individual or group intervention sessions, reports Breaking News.
The HSE Dublin Midlands region has the highest number of children waiting for first contact, with 2,642 children on its lists — 1,905 of whom have been waiting over a year.
This area includes Dublin South City, Dublin South West, Kildare, West Wicklow, Laois, Offaly, Longford, and Westmeath, reports Breaking News.
The next largest waiting list is in the HSE Dublin and North East area, which covers North Dublin, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, and most of Cavan.
There, 2,554 children are awaiting first contact, including 1,768 who have been waiting over 12 months, reports Breaking News.
In the HSE Dublin and South East region — which includes Carlow, Kilkenny, South Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford, and most of Wicklow — 2,458 children remain on the list, with 1,892 waiting longer than a year.
Within the HSE Midlands region, which covers Clare, Limerick, and North Tipperary, 1,261 children are on waiting lists, 679 of whom have been waiting for over 12 months, reports Breaking News.
In the HSE South West region, covering Cork and Kerry, 644 children are still waiting for first contact with a team, and 187 have been waiting over a year.
Meanwhile, in the HSE West and North West region — covering Donegal, Leitrim, Sligo, West Cavan, Mayo, Galway, and Roscommon — 540 children remain on waiting lists, including 162 waiting for more than 12 months, reports Breaking News.
