The young boy who tragically drowned in Co Sligo on Saturday is being remembered as someone who was “always smiling, warm, and full of kindness”, reports RTE.
Seven-year-old Alan Singh, who was from Ballisodare, encountered trouble in the water at Lissadell Beach.
He was transported by air to Sligo University Hospital but sadly passed away, reports RTE.
Alan was a student in Second Class at St John’s National School in Ballisodare.
School principal Mary Curley said in a statement that he made a “lasting impression on everyone who knew him”, reports RTE.
“Alan was a much-loved pupil – always smiling, warm, and full of kindness. He was friendly, hardworking, and a talented young artist who brought joy and creativity to our classrooms. His gentle nature and positive spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him,” reports RTE.
St John’s National School remained open today, with psychologists from the National Educational Psychological Service on hand to support the school community.
The school added that “resources will be provided to parents to help support their children through this time of grief”, reports RTE.
“We respectfully ask for privacy for Alan’s family and for our school community as we all come to terms with this tragic loss. On behalf of everyone at St John’s, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences,” Principal Mary Curley said, reports RTE.
Alan’s funeral mass is scheduled to take place at the Church of the Assumption in Collooney, Sligo, on Thursday.
