A man in the U.S is on the verge of death after his hospital has turned down a transplanted kidney just days before surgery as the donor is unvaccinated against Covid-19.
The fully vaccinated man is in dire need of the kidney transplant but the Cleveland Clinic’s new policy requiring coronavirus vaccinations for organ transplant recipients and donors means that after more than a year of tests, agony and anxiety Mike Ganim will not be getting his life saving surgery.
This is because after the long search to find a match, it turns out that the man who is giving Ganim his kidney has not gotten the experimental jab.
The donor, Sue, George , who is not vaccinated due to religious and medical reasons, told News 5 Cleveland that she doesn’t have anything against the doctors they have worked with, as she knows “their hands are tied, it’s just coming from upper management.”
“The clinic is making what I feel is a big mistake,” she said. “They’re putting this vaccination ahead of saving somebody’s life. I’m willing to give a body part, a kidney to this man. And they are not going to do it because I’m not taking a shot. That makes no sense.”
The new policy which is become more and more common is nonsensical as a certain death from kidney disease is generally regarded more serious than a small chance of catching coronavirus from an unvaccinated person.
