An as-of-yet unaired episode of the smash-hit series Game of Thrones became available online, ahead of its official broadcasting date.
The fourth episode of Season 7 was leaked online, and the incident was first thought to be related to the recent cyberattack that compromised HBO’s computer network in recent weeks.
Hackers were able to steal over 1 Terabyte of data, including unaired episodes of Game of Thrones and other series.
However, it has now emerged that the responsibility for leaking the Game of Thrones episode falls at the feet of Star India, one of HBO’s distribution partners, rather than the nefarious work of hackers.
Once the episode was online, it was widely distributed through social networks.
HBO are now pursuing a case against Star India, on foot of the alleged breach.
